Blancpain GT World Challenge: Wins for Lamborghini, Aston Martin at Nurburgring
The fourth round of the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe took place at Nürburgring. The victories went to Lamborghini and Aston Martin.
Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli are the winners of the first race in the #563 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Orange1 FFF Racing Team. They finished third in the second race and left Nürburgring as the championship leaders. The winners of the second race are Ricky Collard and Marvin Kirchhofer in the #76 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 of R-Motorsport.
Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli, who came to Nürburgring as the second-placed pair in the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe’s classification, took their second win of the season in Saturday’s first race. After 60 minutes of racing, they defeated another Lamborghini crew Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart in the #63 Grasser Racing Huracan.
Black Falcon’s Maro Engel and Luca Stolz, who came to Nürburgring as championship leaders and were in the second place, dropped out from a fight for victory when Engel received a drive-through penalty for an unsafe release from the pitlane.
Four Audis were running behind two leading Lamborghinis. In the end, Christopher Haase and Simon Gachet finished third in the #25 Sainteloc Audi R8 LMS.
The second 60-minute race followed on Sunday with Ricky Collard and Marvin Kirchhofer celebrating their first victory. The other two podium steps were occupied by the same two crew as the day before – Gachet and Haase were second while Mapelli and Caldarelli were third.
Luca Stolz and Maro Engel finished fourth in Black Falcon’s Mercedes, staying in the second place of the overall standings behind Mapelli/Caldarelli. The last round of the season is scheduled for September 7-8 at Hungaroring.
