FIA WEC: Texan victory for Rebellion Racing
The Swiss team Rebellion Racing has claimed its second FIA WEC victory this season in the 6-hour Lone Star Le Mans race at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, the round 5 of the 2019-2020 FIA World Endurance Championship season. This race marked theFIA WEC return TExas for the first time since 2017.
The race winners in the #1 R13 LMP1 car were American Gustavo Menezes, Frenchman Norman Nato and Brazilian Bruno Senna. They defeated two LMP1 hybrids of Toyota Gazoo Racing, which were slowed down by the success handicap. Sebastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley finished second in the #8 Toyota, ahead of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez in the #7 car. In the championship standings, the #7 crew still leads.
In the LMP2 class, the second consecutive victory went to United Autosports. The drivers of the #22 Oreca were Paul di Resta, Phil Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque. They defeated the #37 Oreca of Jackie Chan DC Racing, also tasking the lead in the championship ahead of JCDCR. Jota Sport’s #38 Oreca rounded out the top three.
Among GT cars, Aston Martins were victorious in both classes. The GTE Pro victory went to Aston Martin RAcing’s Nicki Thiim and Marco Sorensen in the #95 car while TF Sport’s Salih Yoluc, Jonny Adam and Charlie Eastwood took the victory in the GTE Am class.
