World RX at Höljes: Johan Kristoffersson's fifth win in six events
The FIA World Rallycross Championship is converting into the battle of reigning champion Johan Kristoffersson against everybody else. The 29-year-old Swedish racer at the wheel of the #1 PSRX Volkswagen Polo scored his fifth win of the season today in his home round at Höljes Motorstadion, the sixth meeting of the 2018 World RX season.
Kristoffersson was again the best driver in qualifying, winning three out of four qualifying heats. The fastest in Q3 was his teammate Petter Solberg. Kristoffersson and Solberg progressed into Semi Final together with other ten drivers.
Kristoffersson then took a victory in his SF group while Solberg retired, giving a victory to another Norwegian driver Andreas Bakkerud in an Audi S1.
Kristoffersson and Bakkerud started from the front row in the Final and stayed in front until the end of the race, capturing two places on a podium.
There was a drama behind their back, with a collision between Mattias Ekstrom and Timmy Hansen. Ekstrom finished third while Timmy was fifth. After the race, race officials demoted Ekstrom to the sixth place due to ‘unsportsmanlike behaviour’.
That promoted Jerome Grosset-Janin (GC Kompetition) to the third place, what is his first World RX podium in a career. Timmy Hansen finished fourth, ahead of his brother Kevin Hansen.
