Kristoffersson's victory in the first ever World RX event at Silverstone
Johan Kristoffersson (PRSX Volkswagen Sweden) is the winner of the first-ever Silverstone RX event as a part of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. For the defending world champion, it’s his third win in 2018 and 12th World RX victory in a career.
The Swedish ace shared a podium with Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud (EKS Audi Sport) and Frenchman Sebastien Loeb (Team Peugeot Total). The other three finalists were Mattias Ekstrom (EKS Audi Sport), Niclas Gronholm (GRX Taneco) and Kevin Hansen (Team Peugeot Total).
Johan Kristoffersson started slowly on Saturday, recording 4th place in Q1 and 6th place in Q2. Then, on Sunday, he won both qualifying heats, Semi Final and Final. On the other side, his teammate Petter Solberg was the overnight leader and dropped to third in the Intermediate standings after four qualifying heats. Then, he failed to finish in the Semi Final.
After four events and three wins, Johan Kristoffersson extends the championship lead ahead of Sebastien Loeb. Kristoffersson has 105 points, fourteen more than Loeb. Andreas Bakkerud is third with 83 points, three more than his teammate Mattias Ekstrom and rival Petter Solberg.
Twenty-three drivers participated in Silverstone’s World RX round. The iconic race track also hosted the opening round of the inaugural ARX – Americas Rallycross series which has been established following a demise of the Global Rallycross Championship. The first ARX winner is Tanner Foust.
