Spring snow in Portugal didn't stop Kristoffersson's victorious run
The reigning World RX champion Johan Kristoffersson (PSRX Volkswagen Sweden) has taken his second consecutive victory in the 2018 FIA World Rallycross Championship by winning the World RX of Portugal at Montalegre. Kristoffersson did that in weather conditions unseen in Portugal in late April – under the heavy snow.
It’s 11th World RX victory in a career for Kristoffersson. He defeated Sebastien Loeb (Peugeot) and his teammate Petter Solberg in the Final. Other finalists were Andreas Bakkerud (EKS Audi Sport), Guerlain Chicherit (GC Kompetition) and Timmy Hansen (Peugeot).
Andreas Bakkerud was the top qualifier after four qualifying heats, winning two heats on Sunday morning. The heat winners on Saturday were Sebastien Loeb and Timmy Hansen. Eighteen drivers took part in the Portuguese World RX round.
After two meetings in 2018, Kristoffersson leads in the championship classification with 53 points, nine more than Andreas Bakkerud and ten more than Petter Solberg. Sebastien Loeb is fourth with 39 points, three more than Mattias Ekstrom.
The next World RX is scheduled for may 12-13 at Circuit Jules Tacheny in Mettet, Belgium.
