World champ is still hungry for wins - tenth triumph for Kristoffersson
Johan Kristoffersson continues his unprecedented domination in the 2018 FIA World Rallycross Championship. The Swedish driver secured his second World RX title in the tenth round at Circuit of the Americas but he’s still hungry for victories and he won this weekend in the eleventh round at Estering in Buxtehude, Germany. It’s his tenth win in 2018 and nineteen World RX victory in a career.
Kristoffersson brings the #1 Volkswagen Polo Supercar to a new victory ahead of two rivals in Audi S1 Supercars – Mattias Ekstrom finished second and Andreas Bakkerud was third. Niclas Gronholm (GRX Hyundai) missed the podium with a fourth-place finish, defeating Petter Solberg (Volkswagen) who was fifth. The sixth finalist was Kevin Hansen (Peugeot) but he crashed out and the race was red-flagged.
Twenty Supercar drivers participated in the penultimate round of the championship. Four of them were in a fight for the second place in the championship ahead of Estering’s event and the same four are still in a fight ahead of season’s finale at Killarney Motor Racing Complex in Cape Town, South Africa.
Ekstrom is second with 228 points, four more than Bakkerud and seven more than Solberg. The fifth-placed Sebastien Loeb (205 points) also has mathematical chances to finish second in the points at the end of the season. In the Teams’ championship, today’s victory of Kristoffersson and additional points of Petter Solberg secured a title for PSRX Volkswagen Sweden.
