World RX: Johan Kristoffersson is showing no mercy for the rivals
The reigning world rallycross champion Johan Kristoffersson (PSRX Volkswagen Sweden) is showing no mercy for the rivals in the world’s premier rallycross competitions. The 29-year-old Swedish driver in the #1 Volkswagen Polo Supercar has won for the seventh time this season in the eighth round of the 2018 World RX season at Circuit de Loheac in France.
Kristoffersson clinched his 16th World RX victory in a career ahead of Andreas Bakkerud (EKS Audi Sport) and Petter Solberg (PSRX Volkswagen Sweden). Mattias Ekstrom (EKS Audi Sport) finished fourth, ahead of two Team Peugeot Total drivers Timmy Hansen and Sebastien Loeb.
Twenty-five Supercars drivers participated in the Bretagne World RX event. Twelve of them secured a pass to Semi-Finals through four qualifying heats. Except for six finalists, the other six drivers in Semi-Finals were Kevin Hanssen, Kevin Eriksson, Guerlain Chicherit, Timur Timerzyanov, Niclas Gronholm and Liam Doran.
The French event was also the sixth round of the European Rallycross Championship. Cyril Raymond scored his first Supercars victory in a Peugeot 208 while Aydar Nuriev has won S1600 class in a Škoda Fabia.
With seven wins in eight events, it’s not questionable if Johan Kristoffersson would defend his World RX title. He has 224 points, 59 more than the closest rival, with four more rounds on a calendar. The fight for other top places is intense with five drivers inside fourteen points: Andreas Bakkerud (165), Petter Solberg (160), Timmy Hansen (158), Mattias Ekstrom (157) and Sebastien Loeb (151).
The next championship round is the World RX of Latvia, scheduled for September 15-16 at Bikernieki Kompleks at Riga.
