ARTA's Honda wins at Suzuka, Button in the championship lead
Tomoki Nojiri and Takuya Izawa are the winners of the Suzuka 300 Super GT race, the third round of the 2018 Super GT Series. A duo in the #8 ARTA Honda NSX-GT converted their pole position into the first win of the season, beating the #100 Raybrig Honda of Naoki Yamamoto and Jenson Button. Defending champions Ryo Hirakawa and Nick Cassidy finished in the third place in the #1 KeePer Tom’s Lexus LC500.
Today’s podium put Jenson Button and Naoki Yamamoto into the championship lead after three races. They collected 32 points, one more than Nismo’s Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli, who finished sixth at Suzuka.
In the GT300 class, the race winners at Suzuka are Morio Nitta and Yuichi Nakayama in the #96 LM Corsa Lexus RC F GT3. Takamitsu Matsui and Sho Tsuboi finished second in the #25 Tsuchiya Engineering’s Toyota 86 MC. R&D Sport’s Takuto Iguchi and Hideki Yamauchi completed a podium in the #61 Subaru BRZ.
After three races, two crews are sharing the championship lead in GT300 class – Matsui/Tsuboi and Sean Walkinshaw/Shinichi Takagi.
The next round of the 2018 Super GT Series is the Buriram United Super GT Race at Chang International Circuit in Thailand.
