Maiden Super Formula victory for Nick Cassidy

Nick Cassidy wins the Super Formula race at Fuji Speedway. For the 23-year-old New Zealander in the #3 Kondo Racing Toyota, it’s the first ever Super Formula victory in his second year in the series.

The victory came as a result of a dominant performance in the qualifying and the race. Cassidy was the fastest qualifier and set the fastest lap in the race, defeating defending champion Hiroaki Ishiura in the P.mu/cerumo Inging Toyota by 4.286 seconds. Ishiura’s teammate Yuji Kunimoto completed the podium, ending the race almost half a minute behind Cassidy.

The other point-scorers are Ryo Hirakawa, Kazuki Nakajima, Yuhi Sekiguchi, Kazuya Oshima and Naoki Yamamoto. Team Mugen’s Naoki Yamamoto was the only Honda driver to score points, extending his championship lead after four rounds/three races (Autopolis was cancelled).
