Team Germany wins the ROC Nations Cup for the eighth time
The Team Germany, represented by Rene Rast and Timo Bernhard, wins the Nations Cup at the 2018 Race of Champions which took place at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
It’s the eighth win for Germany in Nations Cup. In all previous victories, including last year’s, Germany was represented by Sebastian Vettel, whose teammate in six editions was Michael Schumacher. Both Rene Rast and Timo Bernhard are the rookies at Race of Champions.
Eleven two-man teams participated in today’s event. They were divided into three groups and raced against each other in identical cars at the 1,2 km circuit inside a stadium.They were using six different cars: Ariel Atom, VUHL 05 ROC Edition, KTM X-Bow Comp R, ROC Car buggy, Whelen NASCAR car and Xtreme Pickup.
Four teams qualified for the Semi Final round in which Germany defeated Saudi Arabia and Team Latin America defeated Team Nordic.
In the first race of the Final, Rene Rast defeated Juan Pablo Montoya by 0.4475 seconds in the Whelen NASCAR car. In the second duel between Timo Bernhard and Helio Castroneves, the Brazilian was faster by 1.3091 seconds in the VUHL 05 ROC Edition. In a decisive duel, Rene Rast secured the Nations Cup trophy for Team Germany by defeating Helio Castroneves by 1.5913 seconds in the Ariel Atom.
On Saturday, the individual races are on schedule in which drivers will fight for an honor to become the Champion of the Champions.
