GP3 Series at Silverstone: Podium sweeps for ART Grand Prix, Trident
Anthoine Hubert (ART Grand Prix) and Pedro Piquet (Trident) are the race winners in the GP3 Series meeting at Silverstone, the fourth round of the 2018 season. Hubert triumphed in Saturday’s Feature race, what was his second win of the season, while Piquet took his maiden GP3 Series victory in Sunday morning’s Sprint race.
On Saturday, the 21-year-old Frenchman converted pole position into a victory ahead of two ART Grand Prix teammates Nikita Mazepin and Callum Ilott. Trident team was also successful, with all four drivers among point-scorers – Ryan Tveter 4th, Pedro Piquet 7th, Giuliano Alesi 8th and Alessio Lorandi 10th. The other drivers in the top 10 were Dorian Boccolacci (5th, MP Motorsport), Leonardo Pulcini (6th, Campos Racing) and Joey Mawson (9th, Arden).
In the second race, Trident swept a podium with Pedro Piquet taking his maiden victory ahead of pole-sitter Giuliano Alesi and Ryan Tveter. For the first time, two sons of former F1 drivers were on a podium together.
Piquet took the lead in turn 1 and stayed in front until the end of the race. Behind three Trident drivers, ART Grand Prix team collected plenty of points with Anthoine Hubert fourth, Callum Ilott fifth, Nikita Mazepin seventh and Jake Hughes eighth. Leonardo Pulcini (Campos Racing) finished in the sixth place.
Anthoine Hubert is the new championship leader with 100 points, six more than Callum Ilott. Pulcini is third with 73 points, just two more than Mazepin. Among the teams, ART Grand Prix and Trident are far away on the top.
The next GP3 Series round is scheduled for July 27-29 at the Hungaroring.
