GP3 Series: Beckmann, Piquet shared a glory at Monza

Trident drivers David Beckmann and Pedro Piquet are the winners of two GP3 Series races at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, in the seventh round of the season. The Frenchman Anthoine Hubert (ART Grand Prix) still leads the championship after finishing second and fourth in two races at Monza.

The 18-year-old German David Beckmann repeated the same as in the previous round at Spa, taking a pole position in qualifying and converting it into the victory, his second in a rookie season in the GP3 Series. ART Grand Prix drivers and the leading duo in the championship Anthoine Hubert and Callum Ilott finished the race in the second and third place.

The other point-scorers in the first race were Simo Laaksonen, Nikita Mazepin, Giuliano Alesi, Pedro Piquet, Richard Verschoor, Jake Hughes and Niko Kari.

In the second race, Piquet took the lead on the start but lost to Alesi in the second lap. The Safety Car then came out because of debris on the track from the accident between Correa and Aubry. After a restart, Piquet was leading the pack until Lap 8 when Alesi returned to the top.

The Brazilian retook the lead for the final time on Lap 12, staying in front until the chequered flag after seventeen laps. Behind two Trident drivers, Callum Ilott and Anthoine Hubert (both ART Grand Prix) finished third and fourth respectively but they are disqualified after the race, breaching the official tyre pressure limits. Their DSQ promoted Nikita Mazepin into third position. The other point-scorers were Jake Hughes, David Beckmann, Tatiana Calderon, Leonardo Pulcini and Simo Laaksonen.

After seven rounds and fourteen races, Hubert leads the championship with 176 points. Nikita Mazepin and Callum Ilott has 147 points each. The next GP3 Series round is scheduled for September 29-30 at Sochi Autodrom in Russia.
