Formula 3 Europe: Armstrong retains the lead after Zandvoort's round
Marcus Armstrong, the 17-year-old New Zealander who competes under the Italian flag for Prema Theodore Racing, retains the lead in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship after three races at Zandvoort Circuit this weekend. It was the fourth round of the season and Armstrong now leads in the standings with one-point gap ahead of teammate Guanyu Zhou.
Armstrong reached one podium in three races at Zandvoort by finishing second in the second race while Zhou was on a podium in all three races. The race winners were Ralf Aron (Prema Theodore Racing) in both Saturday’s races and Nikita Troitskiy (Carlin) in the third race on Sunday morning.
In the first race, Aron shared a podium with Guanyu Zhou and Mick Schumacher. In the second race, Aron, Armstrong and Zhou climbed on a podium. The third race has been red-flagged four minutes before the end due to problems with a recovery of Julian Hanses’ crashed car. Nikita Troitskiy was on the top at that moment, in front of Guanyu Zhou and Jehan Daruvala (Carlin).
The next round of the FIA F3 European Championship is scheduled for July 27-28 at Spa, as a part of a support programme to Spa 24 Hours.
