Formula 2: George Russell, Alex Albon shared a glory at Sochi
Alexander Albon (DAMS) and George Russell (ART Grand Prix) are the winners of two FIA Formula 2 Championship races at Sochi Autodrom, in the eleventh and the penultimate round of the season. For Albon, it was his fourth win of the season while Russell climbed for the sixth time to the top podium spot.
Ahead of season’s finale at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit in November, Russell leads the championship with 248 points on his account, 37 more than Albon. With a maximum of 50 points to offer in two races, Albon still has a mathematical chance to take the title but it’s almost certain that George Russell would be the 2018 F2 champion.
In the first race at Sochi, Nyck de Vries (Prema Theodore Racing) started from pole and finished third, behind Alex Albon and Nicholas Latifi (DAMS). George Russell finished fourth in the first race. In the second race, George Russell triumphed ahead of Sergio Sette Camara (Carlin) and Alex Albon.
