Formula 2: Victories for Alex Albon, Maxi Günther at Silverstone
Alexander Albon (DAMS) and Maximilian Günther (BWT Arden) are the race winners in the seventh round of the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship round which takes place this weekend at Silverstone. For Albon, it’s his second F2 win of the season and second in a career while Günther triumphed for the first time in the F2 championship.
In Saturday’s Feature race, Alex Albon took the advantage of ART Grand Prix’s George Russell’s slow pit stop, taking the lead and staying in front until the end of the race. His advantage was 9.783 seconds, including Russell’s 5sec penalty for speeding in the pitlane. Antonio Fuoco (Charouz Racing System) completed the podium.
Louis Deletraz (Charouz) passed Luca Ghiotto (Campos Racing) on the final lap for P4. Artem Markelov (Russian Time) was sixth, ahead of Nyck De Vries (Theodore Prema), Maximilian Günther, Ralph Boschung (MP Motorsport) and Lando Norris (Carlin), who completed the scorers.
Maxi Günther started from pole in Sunday’s Sprint race and converted it to his maiden Formula 2 victory. He crosed the finish line just half a second before George Russell, who retained the championship lead after fourteen races. Lando Norris finished third in the Sprint race, defending his second place in the championship standings ahead of the next round at Hungaroring.
