Hamilton's 70th victory for 50-point advantage over Vettel

Lewis Hamilton wins the Russian Grand Prix, the 16th round of the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship season. It’s the eighth win for Hamilton in 2018 and his 70th F1victory in a career.

For his third victory at Sochi Autodrom, Hamilton has to thank team orders that demoted his teammate Valtteri Bottass from P1 on Lap 25 and helped Hamilton to increase his championship lead over Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to 50 points. Vettel finished third at Sochi, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo. Max Verstappen was the ‘Driver of the Day’ because of his progress from P19 to P5.

Three best teams occupied the first six positions again. The best of the rest was Charles Leclerc (Sauber). The other point-scorers are Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Esteban Ocon (Force India) and Sergio Perez (Force India).

With five more rounds to go, Hamilton has 306 points while Vettel follows with 256 points. Today’s podium helped Bottas to return to P3 in the championship, with three points more than Raikkonen.

The next F1 race is the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka Circuit on October 7.
