US Grand Prix: First win for Kimi Raikkonen after five and half years
Kimi Raikkonen has won the 2018 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. It’s Kimi’s 21st Formula One victory in a career, the first win since his triumph in the Australian Grand Prix in March 2013 and the first win in his second five-year stint with Scuderia Ferrari. With this win, Raikkonen also became the most successful Finnish Grand Prix driver in a history, passing Mika Häkkinen.
Behind Kimi’s back, the fight for the championship title occurred with Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) finishing in the third place and Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) in the fourth place. Hamilton increased his championship lead to 70 points ahead of Vettel with three more races remaining.
Max Verstappen (Red Bull) made a fantastic progress from P18 on the starting grid to the second place at the finish line. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) finished in the fifth place, losing a position to Vettel in the penultimate lap.
The other points scorers at COTA are Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Carlos Sainz Jr (Renault), Esteban Ocon (Force India), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and Sergio Perez (Force India).
The F1 Championship will continue next weekend with the Mexican Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
