New track record and pole position for Sebastian Vettel at Shanghai
Scuderia Ferrari defetead Mercedes by more than half of a second in the qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai International Circuit, the third round of the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship. Sebastian Vettel set the new track record and secured a pole position, his 52nd in a career, ahead of teammate Kimi Raikkonen. Vettel’s lap time was 1.31.095, just 0.087 seconds faster than Raikkonen’s lap.
Valtteri Bottas will start his 100th race in the F1 Championship from the third place on the grid, sharing the second row with Lewis Hamilton. Red Bull Racing’s duo Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo will share the third row.
Other qualifiers in the top 10 are Nico Hulkenberg (Renault, P7), Sergio Perez (Force India, P8), Carlos Sainz Jr (Renault, P9) and Romain Grosjean (Haas, P10).
