50th Formula 1 Grand Prix victory for Sebastian Vettel
Sebastian Vettel (Scuderia Ferrari) converted pole position in the Canadian Grand Prix into his 50th Formula 1 Grand Prix victory today at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
Unchallenged by anybody, Vettel easily wins for the second time in Canada, beating the closest rival Valtteri Bottas with a comfortable advantage. It’s the third win of the season for Vettel and he’s now back in the championship lead, having just one point more than Lewis Hamilton, who finished fifth today.
Max Verstappen (Red Bull) started the race from P3 and finished in the same place, ahead of his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, who earned one place through the pits against Lewis Hamilton. Earlier in the race, Ricciardo overtook Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari). It was the only overtake during the race among top six drivers in a pretty boring race.
The most exciting moment of the race was the first-lap crash of Brendon Hartley (Toro Rosso) and Lance Stroll (Williams) at turn 5. Besides their retirement, Fernando Alonso (McLaren) was forced to stop on lap 42 in his 300th Grand Prix start in a career.
The other point-scorers are Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Carlos Sainz Jr. (Renault), Esteban Ocon (Force India) and Charles Leclerc (Sauber).
