Lewis Hamilton wins at Interlagos, Mercedes secures Constructors' title
Lewis Hamilton wins the Brazilian Grand Prix at Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Interlagos, the penultimate round of the 2018 Formula One World Championship. Today’s victory for Hamilton is his second at Interlagos, tenth in 2018 and 72nd in a career.
After he secured his fifth championship title in the previous race, Hamilton now contributes to the Constructors’ title for Mercedes, one round before the end of the season. It’s the fifth consecutive title for Mercedes.
Max Verstappen (Red Bull) showed a great performance after he started from P5 on the grid. He was progressing place by place, taking the lead from Hamilton. Unfortunately, Verstappen’s race was ruined by a back-marker Esteban Ocon, who collided with a Dutchman while he was lapping him at Turn 1. They both spun and Hamilton returned to the lead.
Ocon received 10sec stop and go penalty but it didn’t help Verstappen, who managed to finish in the second place. Verstappen later physically attacked Ocon in a weighing area.
Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) climbed to the third step of a podium, defending his position in the closing laps against Dani Ricciardo (Red Bull). Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) finished the race in the fifth place, ahead of Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari).
The best of the rest was Charles Leclerc (Sauber) in the seventh place. Romain Grosjean (Haas), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and Sergio Perez (Force India) completed the top 10.
