Augusto Farfus triumphed in the FIA GT World Cup at Macau
Augusto Farfus is the winner of the 2018 FIA GT World Cup at Macau Guia Circuit. The BMW factory driver, who will leave DTM to GT racing next year, made a victorious start to his new career at one of the most demanding race tracks in the world.
After he won the Qualifying Race on Saturday in the #42 BMW M6 GT3, Farfus converted his pole position into a victory ahead of two Mercedes drivers and former GT World Cup winners – Maro Engel in the #888 Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Edoardo Mortara in the #1 car.
Farfus was fighting against Raffaele Marciello, who finished second in the Qualification Race, until lap 8 when Marciello hit the barrier at Lisboa corner. In the end, Marciello finished ninth. Earl Bamber was fourth in the #912 Porsche 911 GT3 of Manthey Racing, ahead of two Audi drivers Robin Frijns and Christopher Haase.
For Farfus, it’s his third win at Macau Guia Circuit. He previously won WTCC races in 2005 (with Alfa Romeo) and 2009 (with BMW).
