ELMS at Spa: Double win for United Autosports, title for G-Drive Racing

G-Drive Racing’s Roman Rusinov, Andrea Pizzitola and Jean-Eric Vergne are the 2018 European Le Mans Series champions! They secured a title one round before the end of the season, after today’s race at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps that was shortened from four hours to two hours due to bad weather conditions. The championship-winning crew finished just 12th in LMP2 class today but consistency during the season and the previous three wins bring them a title.

The winners of the 4 Hours of Spa, the fifth round of the 2018 ELMS season, are Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson in the #22 Ligier JSP217 of United Autosports. When the red flag was shown after 40 laps they were in the lead ahead of the #21 Dragonspeed Oreca driven by Henrik Hedman, Ben Hanley and Nicolas Lapierre. Will Stevens, Timothe Buret and Julien Canal completed a podium in the #23 Ligier of Panis Barthez Competition.

United Autosports won both LMP2 and LMP3 classes at Spa

United Autosports celebrated a double victory at Spa because their #2 car took the victory in the LMP3 class. The drivers of the #2 Ligier JS P3-Nissan were John Falb and Scott Andrews. RLR M Sport’s Rob Garofall, Job van Uitert and Jon Farano finished second in LMP3 class, ahead of 360 Racing’s Ross Kaiser and Terrence Woodward.

Fabio Babini, Riccardo Pera and Bret Curtis took the first GTE class victory for Ebimotors in the #80 Porsche 911 RSR. They defeated Spirit of Race’s #55 Ferrari 488 GTE and Proton Competitions’s #88 Porsche 911 RSR.

The final round of the 2018 ELMS season is scheduled for October 28 at Algarve International Circuit in Portimao, Portugal.
