One more ELMS victory for G-Drive Racing's Oreca, drama in GTE class
Roman Rusinov, Andrea Pizzitola and Jean-Eric Vergne won the 4 Hours of Silverstone, the fourth round of the 2018 European Le Mans Series season, It’s the third consecutive victory for the trio in the #26 G-Drive Racing’s Oreca 07-Gibson.
Jean-Eric Vergne took the chequered flag one lap ahead of Nicolas Lapierre in the #21 Dragonspeed Oreca. Lapierre was sharing a car with Ben Hanley and Henrik Hedman. The #28 IDEC Sport Oreca finished in the third place, driven by Paul Lafargue, Memo Rojas and Paul-Loup Chatin.
In the LMP3 class, United Autosports took their first LMP3 win of the season with the #3 Ligier of Anthony Wells, Matt Bell and Garret Grist. They shared a podium with #7 Ecurie Ecosse/Nielsen crew (Colin Noble, Alex Kapadia, Christian Stubbe Olsen) and the #17 Ultimate crew (Francois Heriau, Jean-Baptiste Lahaye and Matthieu Lahaye).
In the GTE class, a victory went to the #66 JMW Motorsport’s Ferrari 488 GTE of Miguel Molina, Liam Griffin and Alex MacDowall. There was a drama at the end of the race because the first two cars were both given 10-second penalties for exceeding track limits.
However, the #66 Ferrari crossed the finish line 10.126 seconds ahead of the #88 Proton Competition’s Porsche 911 RSR and took the win with 0.126 sec advantage. The drivers of the #88 Porsche were Matteo Cairoli, Gianluca Roda and Giorgio Roda. The #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari finished in the third place, driven by Duncan Cameron, Matt Griffin and Aaron Scott.
The next round of 2018 European Le Mans Series is scheduled for September 23 at Spa-Francorchamps.
