DTM: Double celebration for Rene Rast at Nürburgring
The defending DTM champion Rene Rast (Audi) clinched two victories at Nürburgring this weekend in the eighth round of the 2018 DTM season. The driver of the #33 Audi RS5 DTM scored both wins after starting from pole position. Rast now has three wins in this season, the same as in the previous season when he captured the title.
Gary Paffett (Mercedes) retook the championship lead from his teammate Paul di Resta, after finishing third in Saturday’s race and fifth in Sunday’s race. In the first race, Rast and Paffett shared a podium with Bruno Spengler.
On Sunday, all three manufacturers again have their representatives on a podium. Rast has won the race ahead of Paul di Resta and Marco Wittmann. Spengler was fourth, ahead of Paffett.
Gary Paffett leads the championship with 206 points, just two more than Di Resta. Two victories propelled Rast to the third place, he has 149 points. The next round of the DTM season is scheduled for September 22-23 at Red Bull Ring in Austria.
