Team WRT's Audi defeated two Mercedes for a victory at Monza
The #1 Audi R8 LMS clinched the first win of the season in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup today at Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The victory at 3 Hours of Monza went to Belgian Audi Club Team WRT’s Dries Vanthoor, Christopher Mies and Alex Riberas.
They shared a podium with two Mercedes crews, defeating Strakka Racing’s Maxi Buhk, Alvaro Parente and Maxi Gotz in the #43 car and Black Falcon’s Yelmer Buurman, Luca Stolz and Maro Engel in the #4 car.
Last year’s Endurance Cup champions Mirko Bortolotti, Christian Engelhart and Andrea Caldarelli finished fourth in the #63 Grasser Racing Team’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
The biggest surprise of the race is the fifth place overall and the first place in Silver Cup for Emil Frey Racing’s #54 Jaguar, driven by Mikael Grenier, Adrian Zaugg and Alex Fontana.
The best Pro-Am entry was the #333 Rinaldi Racing’s Ferrari 488 GT3. The drivers were Rinat Salikhov, Alexander Mattschull and Dominik Schwager. Among Amateur entries, a victory went to Akka ASP’s #89 Mercedes-AMG GT3, driven by Fabien Barthez, Eric Debard and Philippe Giauque.
