World Series Formula V8 3.5: Pietro Fittipaldi is the champion
Pietro Fittipaldi (Lotus) is the 2017 World Series Formula V8 3.5 champion. The 21-year-old Brazilian driver captured the championship title thanks to two podium results in the season’s finale at Bahrain International Circuit.
The rookie Henrique Chaves (AVF), who came from the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, won the first race and Rene Binder (Lotus) won the second race. Fittipaldi was in the second place in both races.
The championship fight was resolved when Matevos Isaakyan, Fittipaldi’s main rival and the pole-sitter in the first race, stalled in the grid during the installation lap and pulled out to the pits. Henrique Chaves took the lead and stayed in front until the end. Fittipaldi ended second, ahead of Roy Nissany (RP Motorsport).
In the second race, Lotus duo have a private race. Rene Binder scored his fourth win of the season, crossing the finish line 2.5 seconds ahead of Pietro Fittipaldi. Thirteen seconds behind the winner, Tatiana Calderon (RP Motorsport) finished the race in the third place in his maiden appearance in the Formula V8.
