V8 Supercars: Scott McLaughlin from pole to fourth win of the season

DJR Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin wins the second race of the CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown V8 Supercars Championship event at Hidden Valley Raceway. In the 12th races of the season, the driver of the #17 Shell V-Power Ford Falcon started from pole for the seventh time this season and converted it into his fourth win of the season and twelfth V8 Supercars win in a career.

After 70 laps of racing at Northern Territory’s only Supercars circuit, McLaughlin beat two Red Bull Holdens of Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen. Fabian Coulhard, the winner of yesterday’s race and championship leader, finished in the fourth place to remain at the top of leaderboard.

After 12 races, Coulthard collected 1330 points, ten more than McLaughlin. Jamie Whincup lies on P3 with 1314 points, ahead of Van Gisbergen who was far away at 1152 points.

Tim Slade finished fifth in Sunday’s race in the #14 Freightliner Holden, progressing for six places compared to the starting grid. Craig Lowndes was behind Slade on P6, followed by David Reynolds, Scott Pye, Cameron Waters and Rick Kelly.

The next round of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship is the Watpac Townsville 400 at Townsville street circuit in Queensland, scheduled for July 8-9.
