Spa 24 Hours: Victory for Audi Sport Team Sainteloc
Jules Gounon, Christopher Haase and Markus Winkelhock are the winners of the 69th edition of Spa 24 Hours, the greatest GT endurance race in the world which took place at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps this weekend.
After 24 hours and 546 laps around the iconic Belgian Grand Prix circuit, a trio in the #25 Audi R8 LMS of the Audi Sport Team Sainteloc won the race with just 11.8-second gap ahead of #8 M-Sport Bentley Continental GT3 driven by Maxime Soulet, Andy Soucek and Vincent Abril.
The #90 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of the AKKA ASP team, driven by Raffaele Marciello, Edoardo Mortara and Michael Meadows, finished the race in the third place. After 24 hours of racing, six crews finished the race in the leading lap. The #117 KÜS Team75 Bernhard Porsche 991 GT3 is fourth, ahead of two Audi Sport Team WRT Audis (#2 and #1).
This victory is fourth win for Audi in a history of the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps. Previously, Audi teams clinched wins in 2011, 2012 and 2014. For Markus Winkelhock, this is his second win at Spa 24 Hours.
In the Pro-Am class, Black Falcon’s #16 Mercedes took the victory with 12th place overall. The drivers were Oliver Morley, Miguel Toril, Marvin Kirchhöfer and Maximilian Götz. They won ahead of Oman Racing Team’s #97 Aston Martin (15th overall) and Spirit of race #961 Ferrari (17th overall).
The winners of the Am class are David Perel, Marco Zanuttini, Jacques Duyver and Niki Cadei in the #888 Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 GT. They finished 22nd overall, three spots ahead of the next Am crew in the #488 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari. Walkenhorst Motorsport’s #36 BMW M6 GT3 finished third in the Am class.
