Maiden NASCAR Cup Series victory for Austin Dillon
Austin Dillon finally scored his maiden NASCAR Cup Series victory by winning the last night’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. A driver of the #3 Richard Childress Racing’s Chevrolet SS, who debuted full-time in the premier NASCAR series in 2014, reached the Victory Lane in his 133rd start.
Dillon joins the club of drivers who won in every of three NASCAR national series. Previously, Dillon won seven times in the Truck Series and eight times in the Nationwide/Xfinity Series.
On the starting grid, Austin Dillon was 22nd but after 400 laps at NASCAR’s iconic race track, he beats Kyle Busch for his maiden win. Dillon was leading for just two laps. Martin Truex Jr., who led for race-high 233 laps, finished in the third place. Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin completed the top 5.
The race started under the sunshine but finished late in the night, after being red-flagged on lap 143 due to rain and thunderstorm.
