Kyle Busch sweeps Bristol Motor Speedway's tripleheader
Kyle Busch lacks victories this year but he recoups all that with Bristol Motor Speedway’s three wins in three races. On Saturday evening he won the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race, recording his 40th NASCAR Cup Series in a career. With that win, he sweeps a tripleheader at Bristol’s 0.533-mile track as he also won Wednesday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event (UNOH 200) and Friday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race (Food City 300).
Having accomplished the same feat at Bristol in 2010, Busch was the only driver in NASCAR history to achieve the three-series sweep in the same week at the same track. Now he’s the only driver to have done it twice. It was his sixth win at Bristol in a career.
Busch won the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race ahead of Furniture Row Racing’s Erik Jones, who started from pole and led for most of laps (260 of 500) before his career-best finish. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth made it the 1-2-3-4 for Toyota. Kurt Busch was the best non-Toyota driver, finishing fifth in the #41 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford.
