Formula V8 at Nürburgring: Second win of the season for Isaakyan
Matevos Isaakyan (SMP Racing with AVF) captures his second win of the season in the World Series Formula V8 3.5 today at Nürburgring, in the first race of the sixth racing weekend of the year.
The 19-year-old Russian driver started from third place and took the lead immediately on the start, thanks to a slow reaction of the poleman Alex Palou (Teo Martin Motorsport). The Spanish driver, who competes in the Japanese Formula 3 this season, debuted in Formula V8 today, following his fantastic performance in qualifying.
Palou secured pole positions but failed to convert it into a good result. After a poor start, he had a contact with Pietro Fittipaldi (Lotus) on the opening lap. As a result of that incident, Palou was forced to pit with a front wing broken while Fittipaldi dropped to P7.
Alfonso Celis Jr (Fortec Motorsports) started next to Isaakyan from P4 and stayed behind his back for the entire race, finishing 6.357 seconds behind Isaakyan in the second place. It’s the sixth podium of the season for Celis. Egor Orudzhev (SMP Racing) reaches his seventh podium of the season, defending third place from constant attacks of Roy Nissany (RP Motorsport). Yu Kanamaru (RP Motorsport) completed top 5, ahead of two Lotus drivers Rene Binder and Pietro Fittipaldi.
