Nicholas Latifi wins F2 Sprint Race at Silverstone
The Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi won the FIA Formula 2 Championship Sprint Race at Silverstone Circuit what is his first win in 2017.
Nicholas Latifi started from pole position and was the fastest on the track lap after lap. He built the solid advantage to Luca Ghiotto while Oliver Rowland, Artem Markelov and Sergio Canamasas were further behind. Rowland and Markelov were involved in an accident on lap 6 and the British driver received 5 seconds penalty after forcing the Russian off the track.
The DAMS driver comfortably led during the entire race while behind him three drivers were involved in the exciting battle for the podium finish. With four laps to go, the safety car was deployed and after the restart only one lap remained for racing. Latifi remained in control of the pack and won the race ahead of Ghiotto while Markelov overtook Rowland for the 3rd position.
Sergio Canamasas, Charles Leclerc, Norman Nato, Nyck de Vries and Nobuharu Matsushita scored the remaining points in the Sprint Race.
