Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) takes the pole position for the Brazilian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Interlagos. His teammate and freshly crowned F1 champion Lewis Hamilton crashed out in Q1 after making a mistake in the first lap on the track.

Lewis Hamilton made a mistake and crashed out

It’s the third pole position of the season for Bottas. He will share the front row with Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) ahead of Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) in the second row. Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) was the fifth-fastest qualifier but his grid penalty promoted Sergio Perez (Force India) to P5. Fernando Alonso (McLaren) will start next to Perez in the P6. Other top 10 qualifiers were Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Carlos Sainz Jr (Renault) and Felipe Massa (Williams).
