FIA WEC: Victorious start of the season for Toyota Gazoo Racing
Toyota Gazoo Racing’s #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid wins the 6 Hours of Silverstone, the season-opening race of the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship season. The victory was taken by Sebastien Buemi, Anthony Davidson and Kazuki Nakajima.
The international crew in the Japanese car clinched a victory ahead of two Porsche 919 Hybrids. The #2 car was second, driven by Timo Bernhard, Earl Bamber and Brendon Hartley, ahead of #1 car of Neel Jani, Andre Lotterer and Nick Tandy. The #7 Toyota, which started a race from the pole positin, didn’t finish the race after Jose Maria Lopez crashed out on lap 116, being classified 23rd in the 27-car field.
Class wins for DC Racing, Ford and Clearwater Racing
The fourth overall and LMP2 winners are Oliver Jarvis, Ho-Pin Tung and Thomas Laurent in the #38 Oreca 07 of Jackie Chan DC Racing. They were joined on the podium by the #31 crew of Vaillante-Rebellion and #28 crew of TDS Racing
The LM GTE Pro victory went to the #67 Ford GT, driven by Andy Priaulx, Harry Tincknell and Pipo Derani. They started from pole and took the spoils ahead of the #51 Ferrari and #91 Porsche. In LM GTE Am class, the Clearwater Racing’s #61 Ferrari took the top prize, ahead of the #98 Aston Martin. The drivers in the victorious Ferrari were Matt Griffin, Keita Sawa and Weng Sun Mok.
