DTM in Russia: Sensational maiden win for Maro Engel
Maro Engel scores his maiden DTM victory today at Moscow Raceway in the second race of the DTM weekend in Russia. A driver of the #63 Mercedes-AMG C63, who was in the 17th place of DTM standings before this race and started 17th on the grid, managed to beat Mattias Ekstrom in the #5 Audi RS5.
With this podium finish, Ekstrom returned to the championship lead which he lost for one day after yesterday’s win for Rene Rast.
Rast finished fourth today, behind Bruno Spengler in the #7 BMW M4. Spengler started a race from pole position after the fastest qualifier Tom Blomqvist was disqualified due to fuel miscalculation.
Other points scorers in the second race are Jamie Green, Marco Wittmann, Mike Rockenfeller, Tom Blomqvist, Lucas Auer and Robert Wickens.
After ten races, Mattias Ekstrom is in the championship lead although he didn’t win any race, scoring four podiums. He collects 113 points, one more than Rene Rast. Lucas Auer is third with 97 points on his account.
The next round of the DTM season is scheduled for August 19-20 at Circuit Park Zandvoort.
