2017 Dakar Rally, stage 10 - Victory awarded to Peterhansel
Sebastien Loeb is the winner of the 2017 Dakar Rally 10th stage, from Chilecito to San Juan with a 449 km long special stage.
This was the stage marked by accidents. Stephane Peterhansel hit the Slovenian biker Simon Marcic after 83 km. The Peugeot driver stopped to provide assistance whilst waiting for the medical team. The Frenchman lost a couple of minutes but later in the stage did exceptionally well and recovered but it is expected that the time he lost during providing help to Marcic will be recovered.
Mikko Hirvonen also had an accident. The Finn colided with truck and get stuck after 195 km when a radiator of his Mini was broken. The experienced driver lost more than three hours and dream about winning the race was ended.

Cyril Despres led most of the stage but after CP2 Sebastien Loeb took the lead and scored his fourth stage win this year.He finished 2:33 ahead of Despres, while Peterhansel ended provisionally third, 6 minutes and 45 seconds behind his Peugeot teammate and compatriot. The drivers of Mini team, Yazeed Al Rajhi and Orlando Terranova finished 4th and 5th respectively, while Giniel De Villiers at 6th was the best-ranked Toyota driver.
Peterhansel’s lost time recovered
After the end of the stage, Peterhansel’s time has been adjusted and he was declared winner of the stage 10. After the recovery of the time he lost during providing assitance to the injured bike, Peterhansel was 7:28 ahead of Loeb, while in the overall standings he leads by almost six minutes to Loeb.

The 11th stage is scheduled for Friday, from San Juan to Rio Cuarto, with a special stage of 292 km. The drivers will leave the sand dunes around San Juan and slide to the more common tracks of the Cordoba region.
