Team Schnitzer's BMW wins ADAC GT Masters race 2 at Oschersleben
Team Schnitzer’s BMW of Philipp Eng and Ricky Collard won the ADAC GT Masters race 2 at Oschersleben after having a lead from start to finish.
The winning #42 BMW M6 started from pole position in the 150th race in the history of the series after being fastest in qualifying on a Sunday morning. Besides the car #42 was Herberth Motorsport’s #99 Porsche of Sven Muller and Robert Renauer, while the second row was occupied by Callaway Competition’s Corvette #77 of Daniel Keilwitz and Jules Gounon, and HB Racing’s Lamborghini #7 of Norbert Siedler and Marco Mapelli.
In the opening stage of the race, the only change at the top of the grid was that GRT Grasser Racing Team’s Lamborghini #19 of Mirko Bortolotti and Ezequiel Perez Companc moved up to the 4th position. In a meantime, yesterday winners Michael Ammermuller and Mathieu Jaminet were forced to retire after issues with their Porsche.
When the mandatory pit-stop and driver changes were completed, Team Schnitzer’s BMW still was at the top but cars #77 and #99 changed their positions. At the same time, HB Racing’s Lambo recovered to the 4th place. However, with 15 minutes to go, the race was slowed down when the safety car was deployed after the collision of Mucke Motorsport’s #25 Audi and RWT Racing’s #13 Corvette.
With five minutes remaining, the safety car was deployed once more when #22 Nissan crashed badly into the barriers. Luckily, driver Remo Lips was unhurt. Just like on the day before, only one lap remained when the safety car went in and nothing has changed during the final lap.
