Formula E - Hong Kong: Daniel Abt disqualified after maiden win
Daniel Abt provisionaly wins the second race of the Hong Kong ePrix, the season-opening round of the 2017/2018 FIA Formula E Championship, scoring his maiden FE victory for his 25th birthday. But, Abt was disqualifed from the results after the race and victory was handed to Felix Rosenqvist (Mahindra Racing).
During post-race scrutineering, the Technical Stewards had noted a mismatch between part numbers in the technical passport and the car. The exclusion from the classification was made even though the parts are identical and all fully correspond to homologation.
Audi driver started third on the grid and has won the race ahead of pole-sitter Rosenqvist and Edoardo Mortara (Venturi), who started from P2. Abt took the first place thanks to spins of leading drivers. Rosenqvist spun out in Turn 1 of the opening lap, dropping to P11, while Mortara spun out two laps before the end of the race.
Mitch Evans (Jaguar) finished fourth, gaining a podium place after Abt’s disqualification. Jean-Eric Vergne (Techeetah) was fifth, ahead of yesterday’s winner Sam Bird (DS Virgin Racing). Other point-scorers are Oliver Turvey (NIO), Maro Engel (Venturi), Nico Prost (Renault e.dams) and Alex Lynn (DS Virgin Racing). The former double champion Sebastien Buemi (Renault e.dams) was out of points in the 11th place, but Abt’s disqualification moved him to P10.
