Rosberg's maiden victory at Monza
Nico Rosberg is the winner of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix what is his seventh victory of the season, 21st in career and maiden triumph at Monza.
It was a surprising start of the race. Both Ferraris had an excellent start and Vettel and Raikkonen at Turn 1 were just behind the Nico Rosberg who had a perfects start and took the lead from Lewis Hamilton who dropped to the 6th position. Max Verstappen also had a poor start and dropped to 11th position.
After 10 laps both Hamilton and Verstappen slightly recovered. The reigning champion moved up to the 4th place while the Dutchman was 9th at the moment. At the top, Rosberg had a comfortable 6.5s lead to Vettel.
Mercedes’ advantage was the fact that both their cars started the race on soft tyres while the Ferraris started on super soft. That’s why Scuderia had to make two pit-stops while for the Silver Arrows one pit-stop was enough. After lap 26, Rosberg was at the top, followed by Vettel and Raikkonen, while Hamilton was in the rearview mirror of Ferraris.
Unfortunately, again it turned out that no one can compete with Mercedes. Rosberg easily won the race in front of Hamilton, Vettel and Raikkonen were behind them while Daniel Ricciardo took 5th place. Remaining points were scored by Valtteri Bottas, Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, Felipe Massa, and Nico Hulkenberg.
