The FIA GT World Cup race at Macau Guia Circuit would be te probably declared as one of the strangest and most controversial races this year, as Laurens Vanthoor claims the victory with his Audi R8 LMS upside down. The Belgian driver suffered a massive accident during the race, crashing out while he was fighting for the lead. Vanthoor lost control of his Audi R8 and hit the fence at the Mandarin corner, flipping the car and spectacularly sliding halfway down the straight on his roof.

The race was red flagged and wasn’t resumed because there wasn’t enough time to restart. The race was earlier stopped one more time for 45 minutes because of Ricky Capo’s crash and barrier repairs. The race was restarted with 15 minutes to go. In the time of an accident, Vanthoor was running second, behind Porsche’s Earl Bamber, who overtook him few moments before.

According to the red-flag rules at Macau, the final classification was set as on the lap before the accident. So, Laurens Vanthoor is the winner. Bamber lost P2 because of five-second penalty, so another Porsche driver Kevin Estre was on the second podium spot. Bamber dropped to fourth, behind Mercedes’ Maro Engel.
