Formula E - Hong Kong ePrix: Victory for the reigning champion Buemi

The defending Formula E champion Sebastien Buemi (Renault e.dams) wins the Hong Kong ePrix, the opening round of the 2016/2017 Formula E Championship season. The Swiss crossed the finish line 2.477sec ahead of last year’s main championship rival Lucas di Grassi (Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport), who managed to overcame early nose change which put him on the back of the field. Nick Heidfeld (Mahindra Racing) completed the podium.

Buemi took the lead after all drivers made an obligatory car change, stealing the first place from Sam Bird (DS Virgin Racing) on 26, who stayed in a garage almost a minute more than a regular time for car change, dropping to P15. Bird was a leader from Lap 18, when the pole-sitter and previous leader Nelson Piquet Jr (Nextev NIO) hit the wall while trying to avoid Jose Mario Lopez (DS Virgin Racing), who crashed out in front of him.
