2015 24 Hours of Le Mans - hour 10

  • Porsche 919 Hybrid No 17

As the evening approached Circuit de la Sarthe, the overall standings were unchanged, however, that’s soon going to be changed. The accident happened when No. 36 Alpine, driven by Paul-Loup Chatin, went off in Mulsanne corner. The safety car went on the track for the third time so far. Since Audi took over the lead, driven by René Rast the two Porsches driven by Mark Webber and Nico Hülkenberg slowed their tempo and waited until the safety car was gone. After that, Audi tried to run away but Porsches were always few seconds behind. It is amazing that in LMP1 class difference between top 4 cars were always few seconds in very tight racing for almost half of the race. It is important to say that Audi overtook Porsche because Mark Webber’s penalty not because it was faster.

In GT class Corvette C7.R kept the lead into the night in front of Aston Martins. It is interesting that this is the only C7.R after the crash of the other car in qualifying session. It is not the only Corvette since there is another one in GT amateur class but it is older C6.R model. Actor Patrick Dempsey is now fourth in the class in the No. 77 Porsche.

As the midnight passed, the one of troublesome Nissan GT-R LM Nismo cars (No23) went to pits with gearbox problems and other Nissan also was called in pits because it lost part of bodywork. The innovative Nissans had bad luck trough the race and their cars were more in the pits than at the track. By the midnight they were at very disappointing 42nd position.
