William Byron is the 2017 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion
William Byron, who will be 20 in ten days, brings the #9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet to the championship title in the 2017 NASCAR Xfinity Series. Byron finished third in Ford EcoBoost 300 race, the season’s finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, to take his second stock car racing championship title in a career after he was K&N Pro Series West champion two years ago.
The decisive move of the race was when Byron passed his JR Motorsports teammate and one of title tivals Elliott Sadler for the third place with nine laps remaining. Byron stayed there to end a race the best among title contenders.
Cole Custer has won his first Xfinity race, ahead of veteran Sam Hornish Jr. Tyler Reddick and Ryan Preecee completed the top 5. At the end, Sadler was 8th while other title contenders Justin Allgaier and Daniel Hemric were 12th and 34th respectively.
Next year, William Byron will drive the #24 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
